Had a nice diner with Thomas, Almut and friends yesterday and of course everybody has been talking about art fairs – in general. And who switched to what fair and for what reason.
One of them does the Fine Art Fair in Cologne now – because he is becoming older, he said, nearly ‚antique‘… Ha ha ha.
Coming from 1 degree Celsius in Berlin into a 80 Fahrenheit warm Miami is just great. I don’t care about some rain as long as the sun is coming out again. And he does. And enjoyed it after the long flight, first talks with Americans – how nice …
So – we are all here for the fairs. Nearly 20 parallel, impossible to see them all (?). Make your choice: From the ‚old‘ Art Basel Miami to Miami Art Fair, Scope, Pulse, Nada and apologies for not mentioning them all. Be sure you will find something that suits you – a piece you really fall in love with. This is the best reason to buy – YOU decide, it is YOUR taste, YOU know.
Whether you are more into technical things or colors, material, the artist, the gallery, the price or a combination of all these many reasons it is YOUR taste and choice.
And perhaps you have to defend it. Imagine a party at your house, someone says: ‚Oh my God – why for heaven’s sake did you buy this piece of sh…?‘
Ha! Then you have to step in the arena and stand for YOUR right to buy WHAT YOU like.
Anyway – it will be a great week here, enjoy – and do not forget to relax in the sun on the beach, have a swim in the warm ocean and eat out (OK, OK, me as always under the table…).
Seattle hat es offenbar erkannt – mit den cultural overlay districts hat man den Wert der Kunst – auch in ökonomischer Hinsicht erkannt.
Lässt sich Kunst aber so ökonomisieren oder ist das Manipulation von Anfang an wenn man Künstler so zusammen ‚ballt‘? Ist es nicht besser die Kunst sucht sich ihr eigenes Quartier – was welchen Künstler wie inspiriert ist doch seine Sache oder nicht?
Hatte – schon wieder am Wochenende – ein sehr schönes Gespräch über das Thema, das cultural overlays mehr und mehr zur Normalität werden. Sie ist Amerikanerin mit chinesischen Wurzeln und erzählte dass als sie in den 80ern durch Deutschland reiste sie alle für eine Chinesin hielten – es war schlicht nicht vorstellbar dass es so etwas gibt wie Asian Americans. Jetzt meinte sie wäre es anders.
Natürlich verändert sich das – wir reisen mehr *obwohl es immer noch Viele gibt die es nicht können*. Und Reisen bildet – ganz automatisch.
Und ich schreibe zumeist Englisch, manchmal noch Deutsch, mal gemischt – auch cultural overlay. Es passiert einfach. In der Sprache, in der Liebe, in der Musik, in der Wirtschaft, der Tierwelt und und und – es passiert überall.
Love the word ‚cultural overlay‘ – layer by layer we bear several cultures inside – and sometimes one is on top of the other – depends on what is on. And one is the real core culture – when does it appear – always?

Nix mehr Biologie, Natur und natürlich. Es geht hier nur noch – natürlich – um die Optimierung des Menschen im System (Welches? Das voll digitale und genetisch optimierte efficiency driven work life? Sieht ja so aus …). Und natürlich mal wieder auf dem Rücken der Frauen. Da bin ich jetzt mal als Schnauzer ganz Feminist. Die sollen jetzt nicht mehr ihre Zeit mit Muttersein vertun wenn sie jünger sind sondern bitte alles in die Arbeit hauen. Wie es ihnen danach geht wenn sie dann die Kinder groß ziehen – who cares? Na, dann müssen wir halt auch noch Medikamente finden die die Arbeitsleistung der jungen Frauen optimieren aber ihre vollen körperlichen und geistigen Kräfte dabei erhält. Oder wer soll denn dann mit den Kindern Fußball spielen und auf Bäume klettern? Ach – sie meinen das geht auch virtuell? Oder: na, da wird sich schon jemand finden? ‚Na, die Oma macht’s dann halt.‘ So: Merkt hier denn keiner mehr was? Sind Orwell und Huxley schon aus der Schul- Pflichtlektüre verbannt worden? Winken wir jetzt alles durch – Datenmissbrauch und Abhörskandale, alle Blasen dieser Welt (Banken, Immobilien …).
Kinder sind unser soziales Gewissen. Wenn das Kinderkriegen nach hinten verlegt wird fehlt immer mehr der schon immer notwendige Bestandteil unseres Lebens schon bei den jungen Paaren – und wenn die nicht lernen was Kinder bedeuten und sind – wie werden die dann? Rücksichtslose Ich-bezogene Monster, ohne echte Gefühle (weil nie erlebt und gelernt). Wer will das? Als Hund sag’ ich da nur: Ich will das auch nicht.
is really hard to tell – if you have worked as xy in the past and are now looking for something else (I had a talk about it with Inko-Tariah). And it is even harder if you have several talents. Good when you are able to bundle some of them together. But what is it then – ideally you find a profession everybody knows and is common sense. Sometimes, maybe, you have to establish a new one.
Lately someone asked me ‚Are you an artist?‘ ‚Sometimes yes‘ was my answer – because I am not sitting 24 hours a day here writing or at least 8 hours per day (another friend asked me if I want to publish a book: ‚Yes’ was my answer – it is ONE of the several things that are possible and I want to do). I have walks and talks with people and animals (mostly with other dogs, obviously), I am dancing and singing along, write and draw, do some shopping and house work, some sports – and sometimes I do just ‚admin‘. So, several roles per day. A South Tyrolean told me: ‚We, the South Tyroleans are able to do many things – but none of them perfectly‘. Ah, man, I am with you …
So – what is it I do MOST OF THE TIME? And with PLEASURE? Better: really LOVE to do? How for heavens sake can I combine these things? OK, would be an ideal world and work for me … but I am sure it is possible. ACT.
